What are the 3 key ingredients for perfect brows?

Different permanent makeup brow styles

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR PERFECT BROW TREATMENT

Permanent makeup (this includes microblading) is a fast growing and moving industry. Treatment techniques and the products artists are using in their treatments, are continuously becoming more and more advanced. This is great for consumers as it means that the possibilities are pretty much endless in terms of the end results which can now be achieved.

A quick glance on instagram and you will come across a myriad of permanent makeup trending styles and terms. Such as microshading, nanoblading, ombre powder brows, combre ( a fusion of ombre powder brows with soft hair strokes). Sculpted brows, permanent brows, combination brows, soft powder brows, even pixilated hair strokes. I could easily go on.

Having all these options can actually be quite daunting. "What’s the difference" and "how do I know which style is going to be best for me"?, "What are the different permanent brow treatment options available"?

Let's start with comparing the powder ombre brow and a hairstroke brows.

POWDER BROWS (including Ombre powder)

The ombre brow style is created to give the look of soft powder makeup to the brows. The shading is graduated for a softer finish at the bulbs and top of the brows. The intensity and therefore ‘boldness’ of the brow can be switched up or down depending on the desired end result and skin type of the client.

There is a common misconception that a powder brow is only for those who want a bold ‘wake up with makeup’ result. This doesn’t need to be the case and a very soft powder brow can offer a very natural looking brow too. In fact it is the perfect solution for anyone with very oily and sensitive skin types who may not ‘hold’ hairstrokes but want a very low key natural look.

This look is more commonly created using a permanent makeup machine operated needle, but can also be created using the microblade. What’s great about powder brow styles, is that they work beautifully on all skin types.

HAIRSTROKE BROWS

This style is created by depositing pigment into the skin in the form of tiny strokes which mimic the look of natural hair. When I create a hairstroke brow I normally follow the natural growth pattern of the clients brow hair. This allows for the microbladed (or machine) hairstrokes to seamlessly blend with the clients real brows. However you can opt for different styles of hairstroke brows too, such as fluffy brows or very structured (neat) hairstrokes. This style of brow is commonly  considered the most ’natural look’.

Hairstroke brows, can be created with the microblade or machine operated needles including the nano blade (some microblades are also referred to as nano blades).

WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHERS?

The other styles are simply variations of the powder brow and hair stroke brows combined. Using different artistry, shading and/or hairstroke application techniques:
- Microshading for example is a combination of hairstrokes and soft shading ( I refer to this as a ‘fusion brow’).
- Combre is a brow which is predominantly ombre shading but with some soft fluffy hairstrokes added. These may be just in the bulb of the brow or around the edges.

Those with very thinned out and/or coarse brow hair may find that a combination brow will create a more natural end result. As soft shading gives added density and depth of colour.

HOW DO I ENSURE I GET THE RESULT THAT'S RIGHT FOR ME?

A strong consultation led by your artist is key. He/she should assess your skin, your natural brow shape and any existing brow hair. They need to see how you normally ‘do’ your brows and discuss any makeup you may apply (if any). There should be a detailed discussion about what you are looking to achieve and why you are seeking a more permanent solution. I also recommend showing your artist photos of brow styles you particularly like as this really helps them to understand your style and in many cases what you consider to be a natural look. Almost all of my clients tell me they want a 'very natural look' but what actually constitutes a ‘natural look’ varies massively from one person to the next. Making sure I fully understand each of my clients own version of natural is very important in helping me make a recommendation for treatment. This all forms part of my consultation with you so I can offer you the most suitable brow treatment for you. How to find out more I offer free consultations for all of my treatments. This enables my clients to meet me before making a decision. Any requirements are discussed so you can be fully aware of what to expect from a treatment with me. it's also a great opportunity to ensure all of your questions are answered and to complete your skin patch test.
